New Year, New Adventures!

We hung up our BROOKLYN sign and welcomed 2012 in DUMBO, Brooklyn! The brightly lit windows and airy view of the iconic Manhattan Bridge, Brooklyn Bridge, and the spectacular East River have provided much inspiration as we move forward with a myriad of exciting new projects in 2012! In the company of our friendly new neighbors - video producers, fashion designers, and photographers - we celebrated our new space with colleagues both old and new while enjoying a tasty spread of cheeses and delicious prosecco. It was an evening to remember and a wonderful way to kick off the new year!

Beyond our Brooklyn home, we launched Bronx Terminal Market’s year-long event marketing campaign over President's Day weekend with Bronx Children’s Museum! Parked next to Applebee's for the three-day weekend, the Museum's "River On the Go" bus exhibit encouraged visiting children and families to explore the habitat, animals, and plant life of the Bronx River. In partnership with the event, a variety of stores and restaurants offered special giveaways and interactive workshops from collage building at Home Depot to face painting and balloon art at T-Mobile.

Here’s how we spent one of the busiest shopping seasons of the year…

On November 25th, we joined over 60,000 shoppers at Time Warner Center for Lucky Shops Black Friday. Lucky Magazine partnered with Time Warner Center and MasterCard to offer exclusive deals, free product samples, mini-makeovers, and so much more on the biggest shopping day of the year!

Later that month we launched Time Warner Center’s Holiday Under the Stars with a private cocktail party at the MasterCard Holiday Star Lounge on the second floor of Time Warner Center. Delicacies included grilled shrimp skewers, quail eggs, mac and cheese balls! Through January 3rd, shoppers can enjoy this must-see holiday attraction featuring music by Wynton Marsalis and an all-star band including members of the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra.

The MasterCard Holiday Star Lounge at Time Warner Center opened earlier this month to provide special fashion and foodie offerings from The Shops at Columbus Circle as well as the Restaurant and Bar Collection at Time Warner Center to MasterCard cardholders during the busy shopping season. Shoppers relaxed and indulged in complimentary gift-wrapping after a long day of shopping, saving them time and making their holiday shopping experience enjoyable!

Heading over to another borough, we produced a three-part holiday event series at Bronx Terminal Market on December 3rd, 10th, and 17th featuring free hot chocolate and holiday caroling throughout the shopping center. Shoppers also had the opportunity to donate gently used coats to New York Cares at drop boxes located outside of Applebee’s at Bronx Terminal Market.

We are thankful for a bustling fun year and look forward to the amazing new projects 2012 will bring!

Autumn Antics

Our fun filled summer led us into an eventful Autumn! Here's a recap of the spectacular events we produced this season...

On Fashion’s Night Out at Time Warner Center we kicked off Fashion Week by shopping and sampling everything from exotic cocktails at Stone Rose Lounge to delicious Italian olive oils and vinegars at O& CO. It was a fabulous evening full of champagne, glitz, and glam!

On a rainy Fun Friday in Autumn, we stayed dry at the newly opened, 61 Local in Cobble Hill with an assortment of locally crafted cheese and refreshing weiss beer. It was also the perfect way to prepare for our busy weekend when we took over Brooklyn on October 1st and October 2nd producing two street festivals in one weekend!

The New New York Green Block Party was held on October 1st in Williamsburg, around the corner from Brooklyn Bowl and down the block from the new hotel that Two Trees will be opening next year. Eco-conscious organizations and businesses like Future Green Studio, Brooklyn Greenroof, and Alive Structures promoted green building/living at this second annual event hosted by GreenHomeNYC. Composting demonstrations, green roof model building, and clothes-swapping were just a few of the eco-friendly activities of the day. Attendees also enjoyed vegan empanadas and Van-Leeuwen Artisan ice cream while hanging out at the green furniture design lounge!

One of our favorite events of the year, The Atlantic Antic, was held October 2nd. One million people walked down Brooklyn's historic Atlantic Avenue for The 37th Annual Atlantic Antic Street Festival! The skies were clear and the streets were bustling with energy. With over 500 vendors, 100 local merchants, 10 live music stages, and 1 block dedicated to family-friendly fun, this year's Antic was bigger and better than ever! Highlights included pop-up cubes from UNIQLO, a Yelp Lounge featuring games like "Pin The Skinny Jeans on the Hipster," a Broadway Booth sponsored by How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, and Carmelo the Science Fellow's Magician's Lab presented by AT&T.

As the festival came to an end, we celebrated with a round of Antic Amber at the Waterfront Ale House. Cheers!

We kicked off November with the launch of Hudson Yards, the new center for commerce, culture, and community on the West Side of Manhattan! Hundreds gathered for an exclusive press event where Mayor Bloomberg and Related Companies Chairman Stephen M. Ross announced Coach as the first major tenant. City Council Speaker Christine Quinn and Coach Chairman/CEO Lew Frankfort also shared a few words while attendees enjoyed delicious pastries and hot coffee on-site.

The fun continues on November 25th with Lucky Shops Black Friday at Time Warner Center. On the biggest shopping day of the year, Lucky will partner with Time Warner Center and MasterCard to bring together over 60,000 shoppers from around the world for exclusive deals, product samples, mini-makeovers, and tons of surprises! Plus, Lucky presents Priceless New York from MasterCard, a collection of shopping, culinary, sports, and entertainment experiences reserved for MasterCard cardholders on one day only!

We hope you can join us for this premier shopping event at Time Warner Center. It promises to be quite an experience!

Some Like It Hot and So Do We!

Summer was sizzling, full of fun, but went by way too fast! Still, Auster Agency managed to set aside some time to unwind and celebrate. Here are a few of our favorite memories from the season...

We encouraged shoppers to show off their favorite Park Essentials from Time Warner Center in Central park by uploading a photo to Twitter. The very deserving winner won a $300 gift card to Williams-Sonoma Columbus Circle. Check out his photo with a Central Park book from Borders!

In June, we celebrated Bastille Day at Bouchon Bakery in Time Warner Center. It was an exquisite evening of sparkling wine, lively music, and AMAZING food including raw oysters, shrimp cocktail, fresh lobster claw meat, brie crêpes, and macarons. We LOVE the taste of French freedom!

At the height of summer, we packed a wine and cheese picnic and watched the hilarious classic, Airplane!, underneath the stars in Bryant Park among a crowd of thousands of lounging New Yorkers. It was quite a night to remember.

To mark the 10th Anniversary of 9/11, Time Warner Center presented an exhibition of more than 50 images from Joe McNally’s renowned “Faces of Ground Zero, Portraits of the Heroes of September 11, 2001.” We joined friends and family of the exhibit for a lovely and reflective cocktail reception commemorating the anniversary. After the event, our good friend, Karl Daniel, gave us an amazing private tour of the jaw-dropping amenities for residents in the penthouses of Time Warner Center. Can you believe the view?

Oh, the parting of summer is such sweet sorrow… but we have a full plate of activities to look forward to in the Fall. Make sure you join us for our BIG weekend in October. We're taking over Brooklyn with The New New York and The 37th Annual Atlantic Antic! Can't wait to see you there!

NEW interns, NEW Central Park Essentials, and NEW fundraiser kicked off the NEW season!

We'd like to welcome our summer interns Alix and Stephanie! Bronx native Stephanie Rosario is better known for her recent trek through the Grand Canyon and Alix Camp hails from Hawaii, where she attended the same high school as President Barack Obama! Our new interns are AWESOME!

Summer has arrived at Time Warner Center! From t-shirts to stylish white dresses, we had tons of fun scouring the array of trendy summer whites! Working with Central Park Conservancy we are promoting Time Warner Center as the premiere destination for all your park essentials this summer! It was the perfect night for a cocktail reception at The River Café. The Camp Brooklyn fundraiser sent over 40 kids to sleep-away camp! The evening was filled with refreshing cocktails, delicious hors d'oeuvres, and a fireworks extravaganza across the river! Take a look at our amazing photos from the event! Magnificent Month of MAYhem!

If there is such a thing as comfortable heels, we put on our coziest party shoes and sprinted from Manhattan to Queens to Roosevelt Island for two galas, a concert, a tradeshow, and a party all in the same week!

The Brooklyn Children’s Museum hosted its annual Brooklyn Kids Awards Gala on May 10th, honoring Larry Silverstein, Sunny Bates, Lorna Simpson, Pilar Guzman and Sweet Honey in the Rock. Held on the 45th floor of 7 World Trade Center, event highlights include a silent auction, delicious food from Brooklyn-based restaurants, and an amazing performance by Grammy Award-winning a cappella ensemble, Sweet Honey In the Rock!

On May 12th we crossed boroughs on a perfect Spring day for the Queens Museum of Art’s Annual Gala! Celebrating the expansion of the museum, the gala honored Rose Ciampa and Hughes Hubbard & Reed for their support in transforming the museum into the premiere institution of the 21st Century. Guests sipped cocktails while surveying the construction site before sitting down for speeches, toasts, and an elegant dinner in an outdoor tent overlooking the Unisphere.

Next, it was time to dance! We traveled to Roosevelt Island on May 14th for Gowanus Music Club's Rocks Rosey Concert. The rain held off long enough to give these future rockstars a chance to show off their talent in front of a diverse crowd of New Yorkers!

From May 14th to May 17th, we took BKLYN DESIGNS to the International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF) at the Jacob Javits Center! Unique highlights: a custom-made chicken coop, modern day birdhouses, and dining table made of beetle-infested reclaimed wood among a wide array of contemporary furnishings crafted by nine Brooklyn-based designers like Hooker & Co., IMAKE Studio, KWH Furniture, Pickett Furniture, Raad Studio, Volk Furniture, Fort Makers, Palo Samko, and Wud Furniture.

We celebrated the finale of Time Warner Center's Fashion Blogger Forecast on May 15th in Stone Rose Lounge with fashion blogger Sicka Than Average. With delicious food, cocktails, and giveaways, it was the perfect way to end a busy week!

To wrap up a successful month, we headed to 1534 Bar to celebrate Brittany's last day at Auster Agency! We'll miss you BB!

April was an eventful month! We kicked off spring shopping with Time Warner Center’s Fashion Blogger Forecast! During this campaign, NYC-based bloggers Born & Bread, My Style Pill, Sicka Than Average, and The Fashion Reporter were invited to style an outfit inspired by a quintessential Time Warner Center experience from a night of jazz at Dizzy's Club Coca-Cola to ladies' night cocktails at Stone Rose Lounge.

Blogger fans had a chance to win a signature accessory from each blogger's look: a Jade Tribe tote bag from montmartre, a statement necklace from ESPRIT, and luxurious manicure from The Spa at Mandarin Oriental, New York. 7. Author and playwright Peter Hedges and actress Lauren Ambrose (from Six Feet Under) narrating the poetic words of late author Truman Capote at his former residence in Brooklyn Heights

For the past few months we've really been shakin' our tail feathers to produce three fabulous events this week-- an intimate reading, a world film premiere, and an unbelievable fundraiser!! Check out this Friday wrap-up:

An Evening at Mr. Wolfe's - 12.6.10

Nearly 100 guests enjoyed a memorable evening in the grand double parlor of the elegant Brooklyn Heights brownstone in which Wolfe occupied an apartment from 1932 to 1938 listening to selections from Wolfe's biography, well-know works, and intimate love letters to his influential mistress. An Evening at Mr. Wolfe's was a funny, heartbreaking, and truly lovely event and a perfect part of the Brooklyn Height's Association's Centennial Celebration. Scenarios USA REAL DEAL World Premiere - 12.7.10

On Tuesday, the 2010 Scenarios USA REAL DEAL short films written by award-winning and impassioned teens Treviny Marie Colon (NY), Angelica Hernandez (TX), and Angileece Williams (OH) and directed by Hollywood notables Joel Schumacher, Cruz Angeles, and Malcolm D. Lee premiered to a crowd of more than 400 at the School of Visual Arts Theatre in Manhattan. The powerful, relevant, and challenging films put a spotlight on the girls' answers to the question "What's the REAL DEAL about masculinity?" exploring topics of what it means to come of age including a variety of current issues facing today's teens-- from sexual orientation and abuse, bullying, double standards, and gender-based harassment to the economic realities of pursuing higher education despite cultural and financial hurdles. The screenings were followed by a well-informed Q&A session and fabulous after-party that included the unveiling of the incredible 'Us in the Mirror' art installation, an innovation in the organization's tradition of youth-created media. We're so looking forward to April's gala!

Eat.Celebrate.Support - 12.7.10

We partnered with the Food Bank for New York City to host a extraordinary foodie event with renowned chefs like Mario Batali, David Chang, and Anthony Bourdain!! The event featured an assortment of amazing dishes provided by members of the Culinary Council like tofu cheesecake!! We spent the night mingling with distinguished culinary icons and admiring the unbeatable view from atop the Empire State Building. We ate, drank, and were merry at this fundraising event that launched the prestigious Culinary Council!

Hey Brooklyn, know a Do Gooder? This fall, the Brooklyn Community Foundation is honoring those who make a difference everyday with their generosity, creativity and Brooklyn spirit. Through October 15th, you’re invited to nominate and vote online for individuals who display an outstanding sense of giving back locally. A judging panel will then select 5 Brooklyn Do Gooders from among 20 finalists to represent 5 fields of interest and they’ll take home $5,000 each to allocate to the non-profit of their choice! The campaign will culminate at a community celebration on the evening of November 3rd, where winners will be recognized for their outstanding contributions. SEPT. 12 – Yelp’s So Long Summer BBQ!

As part of the Roosevelt L!VE concert series, cap off this sweltering summer with the hottest party to hit Roosevelt Island—the So Long Summer BBQ, brought to you by our lovely friends at Yelp! On September 12^th from 4pm to 6pm, bring a frisbee, the dog, and the whole family to enjoy the island’s lovely courtyard. Riverwalk Bar and Grill will be serving up complimentary sliders, hot dogs, and dip for those on ‘the list’ as well as, you guessed it, beer and wine! But how? SEPT. 26 – 2010 Atlantic Antic!

That’s right! The Atlantic Avenue Local Development Corporation’s annual Atlantic Antic is right around the corner! We sold out in record time this year and are planning for the biggest and best Antic yet! With more than 700 merchants and vendors, 15 live performance stages featuring indie, blues, pop, and cultural music and dance, and an entire block for kids between Boerum Pl. and Smith St., you won’t know where to go first. There are many new faces selling their goods and services on the avenue and, of course, an overwhelming amount of veterans who come back year after year and know just how great of an event this is. Come be a part of Brooklyn’s favorite street festival on Sunday, September 26^th from 10am to 6pm, rain or shine! Visit the official Antic website at www.atlanticave.org. SEPT. 26 – Brooklyn Heights Association’s Stoop Sale!

As part of their Centennial celebration, the Brooklyn Heights Association has organized a community-wide stoop sale! Heights’ residents are busy clearing out their closets and drawers and are ready to offer some hidden treasures to those keen enough to take a stroll through the charming neighborhood. The date coincides with the Atlantic Antic, so once you’ve had your fill of falafel and pony rides, head out to Brooklyn Heights to score some goodies. OCT. 2 –New New York Block Party!

You heard it here first! GreenHomeNYC is proud to present the city’s first ever DIY green street celebration! The New New York Block Party is bringing vendors and exhibitors who have a strong commitment to going green with their programming or products to Carroll Gardens’ Third St., between Bond and Hoyt on October 2^nd from 10am to 6pm, rain or shine. We’re taking a field trip out of Brooklyn this fall and winter to the Sky View Center, a brand new, 800,000 sq. ft. one-stop shopping destination and hope you’ll come too! Expect incredible events at this remarkable new Flushing, Queens location with everything from community organization based programming and exhibits to family-friendly concerts and holiday light spectaculars.

NOV. 3 – Brooklyn Do Gooder Awards

The first annual celebration of 5 Brooklyn Do Gooders will premiere on November 3^rd at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden’s Palm House. We’re securing sponsors and community partners now, and from the looks of things, this event is going to be, how can we say it? GOOOOOOOOOD! Visit the Do Gooder website for updates.

NOV. 18 – Brooklyn Public Library’s 14th Annual Gala

The Gala is back and as fabulous as ever! Expect to dress to impress at this long-time celebrated event on November 18^th from 6pm to 9pm at Brooklyn Bowl. DECEMBER – Scenarios USA Film Premiere

Scenarios USA is a nonprofit organization that uses writing and filmmaking to foster youth leadership, advocacy and self-expression in under-served teens. Teens write about the issues that shape their lives for the annual "What's the REAL DEAL?" writing contest and winning writers are partnered with some of Hollywood's finest filmmakers to transform their stories into award-winning short films. We’re working with Scenarios USA on this year’s film premiere event and we’d love to tell you more about it, but you’ll have to wait for this post’s sequel. There’s nothing like a cliffhanger! It might be the hottest season of the year, but we know where to lead you for the coolest events of the summer. All you have to do is step outside and experience all that New York has to offer -- for FREE! This summer we have an amazing lineup of outdoor concerts, festivals and street fairs to get you out of the house, and you can leave your wallet at home.

We kicked off the summer with the Brooklyn Heights Association's Picnic on the Promenade on June 19, bringing families together to eat cupcakes from CRUMBS, enjoy the beautiful view of the Manhattan skyline and sing along with the Deedle Deedle Dees. The scene was equally picturesque at Pier 1 Harbor View Lawn of the new Brooklyn Bridge Park, where the BHA presented "I Do Not Doubt I am Limitless: Walt Whitman's Brooklyn." This evening of free music and poetry featured the sounds of CSC Funk Band and Cat Martino, set to a marathon reading of Whitman’s "Leaves of Grass."

One of our most exciting and eclectic events is going on all summer long on the beautiful Riverwalk Commons on Roosevelt Island. ROOSEVELT L!VE, an outdoor concert and event series, began on July 10 with the First Annual Albert Ayler Festival, a daylong tribute to the legendary free-jazz tenor-saxophonist Albert Ayler, complete with a crowd of Ayler fans, a marathon record fair and music from the jazz artists influenced by Ayler's work. On July 18 we enjoyed the dance, song and culture of New Orleans-style Mardi Gras and Brazilian-style Carnaval, along with delicious seafood from the Red Hook Lobster Pound, for Mardi Gras Meets Carnaval! Then came Conscious Cycle on July 31, an interactive art project revolving around the themes of conscious living and life's cyclical nature that encourages the community to be creative.

There’s even more to come, and it’s all off the F train stop to Roosevelt Island. On September 12, join Yelp for their So Long Summer! BBQ, featuring complimentary food from Riverwalk Bar & Grill for Yelp-ers on the list. Guests will get the chance to mingle with likeminded individuals while enjoying the cuisine and the view from Roosevelt Island, the city’s hidden gem.

September also features New York City's largest street festival, the 36th Annual Atlantic Antic! Stretching out over a mile through several different neighborhoods in Brooklyn, Atlantic Antic features everything from food of all ethnicities to one-of-a-kind handcrafted jewelry and clothing to an entire block party for kids! Come to Atlantic Avenue on Sunday, September 26 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. to enjoy the Indian Summer and all of the unique offerings of this diverse and exciting street fair. On the same day, check out the Brooklyn Heights Community Stoop Sale, going on throughout the neighborhood and soaking up the foot traffic from the Antic!

If you're looking for another excuse to be outside, the New New York Green Block Party is coming to town on October 2 to satisfy your itch. This innovative event is combining everything you love about our borough with the latest education, products and visions for a greener New York City.

Camp Brooklyn Anchors in Donations Aboard the Queen Mary 2

Yesterday, Red Hook became home to not only the world's grandest ocean liner, the Queen Mary 2, but some of the world's grandest givers.By purchasing a ticket aboard the ship, guests were able to experience classic luxury while giving a child the opportunity to go to summer camp through the Camp Brooklyn Fund. Over 55 children are being sent to camp thanks to the money raised through this event.

Though the ship was only docked for the day, each guest got the full package, including a lovely reception in the Queen's Room, lunch served in the Britannia Room, and tours of several of the decks. The Commodore even joined in before setting sail that night. From the fabulous day aboard a world-class ocean-liner to the thousands of dollars raised for charity, this event was a success of grand proportions.

BKLYN DESIGNS 2010 Launches New York Design Week and New Design Talent

The innovative designers at this year’s BKLYN DESIGNS aren’t the only ones getting rave reviews.

The three-day design showcase in DUMBO treated guests from around the city and around the globe to an amazing opening night party, a Kids Lounge, and a chance to see all that the borough has to offer in the way of home furnishings and accessories. Flocking to Brooklyn in record numbers were not only international consumers and members of the trade, but correspondents from top publications — the Wall Street Journal, ELLE DECOR and Interior Design, to name a few — proving that when we build a fabulous event, the people (and the press) will come.

Interior design experts, including those at design magazine Core77, spoke of the “consistently inspiring level of craftsmanship, creativity and attention to detail seen throughout BKLYN DESIGNS,” while Jason Sheftell from the Daily News said that the event “demonstrated that Brooklyn is a powerful player in international design.”

Wendy Goodman’s slideshow for New York Magazine’s “The Cut” blog doesn’t miss a thing in its coverage of BKLYN DESIGNS. She comments on the show, describing it as “the brainchild of the awesome Karen Auster of Auster Agency” and “a launching pad for new talent.” Check out Goodman's comments on the designers who stood out to her, slide by slide.

Tickets for the benefit luncheon aboard the world's grandest ocean liner, Queen Mary 2 sold out less than a week after invitations dropped!

The lucky 100 guests to attend on Monday, June 7 will escape New York City for the afternoon while benefiting Camp Brooklyn, an organization that gives children from low-income families the opportunity to enjoy a retreat away from their urban environments for the summer. This not-for-profit organization founded by Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz in 2002 has sent over 1,500 Brooklyn children to summer camp, including 400 children just last year. The luncheon will honor the 100th Anniversary of the Brooklyn Heights Association.

The QM2 has brought its world-class reputation to Red Hook! What will come to come to Brooklyn next?

We thought moving would require us to leave 33 Flatbush Avenue: a building we have been proud to call our home for the past year and a source of excitement, friendships and productivity. Then it hit us- we don’t have to leave the building in order to move, why not just move floors!?

We found a brighter, greener, larger and more fabulous workspace on the 5th floor!

We have joined other like minded, socially responsible and cutting edge companies like Crop to Cup ,
Sea to Table, Kumquat Cupcakery, Alive Structures, and Madecasse.

To honor the 100th anniversary of the Brooklyn Heights Association, Auster Agency produced the launch of the BHA’s yearlong series Celebrating a Century.

With hundreds of devoted attendees packed into St. Francis College Auditorium, Hollywood in the Heights was the perfect way to begin a yearlong celebration and tribute to the historic, well-preserved and popular neighborhood of Brooklyn Heights.

The evening, hosted by Academy Award nominated screenwriter, author and Brooklyn resident, Peter Hedges, opened the evening with a film montage highlighting movie scenes filmed in Brooklyn Heights. After the montage premier, Mr. Hedges, along with executive producer, Mari Jo Winkler, and location manager, Kip Myer, held a captivating panel discussion presenting the challenges of bringing Hollywood to the streets of Brooklyn Heights.

Today was an exciting day at Auster Agency as we moved forward with the planning of the 36th annual Atlantic Antic scheduled for Sunday, September 26, 2010. This morning, we met with WPIX, a beloved longtime sponsor of The Atlantic Antic. Our office field trip to the WPIX studios was super exciting as one of our staff members is a major fan of Kaity, Mr. G and the entire WPIX news team! Although her nightly news idols were not around early this morning, it was exciting for her to walk the same halls and get up close and personal to these broadcasted legends!

DesigNYC is looking for design firms interested in donating design services in support of their mission of improving life in NYC by connecting nonprofit and civic groups in need of design assistance with professional, pro bono design resources.

The design services needed run the gamut from graphics to landscape to interiors to sustainability and more. The process will go something like this:

1. DesigNYC will connect the organizations with design professionals that seem like a good fit

2. The design firm and the organization will work together to define the scope, deliverables and schedule to get the job done (most projects are in the 2-4 month range)

3. DesigNYC will provide guidance and promotion/advocacy, as well as a networking community for all involved

4. The design firm will have done a public service and will be recognized for their contribution, and the organization will be more able to succeed because of it!

Thursday night's launch party of Deity Supperclub at Deity NYC was fabulous! The sexy and sophisticated vibe of Deity's Supperclub will undoubtedly attract crowds as word gets out about their mouth-watering dishes created by celebrity chef, Caesar Ramirez.

Brooklyn's AHA Start! Walk

The Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce and auster*events invited the designers from BKLYN DESIGNS to a summer soiree at Pete's Waterfront Ale House on Atlantic Avenue. It was great seeing the 2009 exhibitors and hearing both their numerous success stories as well as suggestions for 2010!

We hear that designer Hugh Hayden sold 5 tennis ball chairs (which won Inhabitat's "Most Innovative Use of Materials" award) and 1 children's armchair (as seen at BKLYN DESIGNS ICFF Booth)

Also, designer Daniel Moyer received a custom order from Polo Ralph Lauren for a 24 inch long board, for use in a Harrod's Back-to-School window display. (pictured right)

After a wonderful New Orlean's experience last Saturday, we're looking forward to taking part in a little Brazilian Carnaval this weekend on Roosevelt Island.

Nation Beat, a 21st century fusion of Brazilian drumming, Appalachian inspired blue grass music, funk, rock and country blues, will not only be performing this Saturday from 4pm - 6pm at ROOSEVELT L!VE, but will also be teaching concert goers some sizzling Brazilian dance moves. Hope to see you out on the lawn!

Last week, some of the auster*events staff attended the Dos Equis sponsored "Most Interesting Academy" event, hosted at the Broad Street Ballroom. While the 2000+ crowd caused fire marshals to shut the party down early, our staff still got to enjoy the 19,000 gallon pool, live birds of prey, karate classes, marching band and headliner QUESTLOVE from The Roots.

Every summer, we add new interns to our staff roster. This summer we are proud to bring back Chanelle for her second summer, a recent SUNY Binghamton graduation, and welcome new comers Katie from Clemson University, and Georgina from Vassar College.

Chanelle and Georgina are working together to promote and produce the 35th annual Atlantic Antic, while Katie spends her days marketing ROOSEVELT L!VE.

The auster*events family welcomes their 2009 interns, as they contribute their talents to the projects we are producing...look for them at upcoming Roosevelt Island concerts!

The ROOSEVELT L!VE concert series continued full-force on Saturday May 30, 2009, with the rousing melodies of Alex Battles and the Whiskey Rebellion!

The crowd on Roosevelt Island enjoyed a beautiful sunny day while dancing and grooving to the fusion of blues, country and rock n’ roll, delivered by the band with incredible energy.

Battles and his band – decked out in cowboy shirts and hats – left the audience with high spirits and memories of a fantastic, fun-filled afternoon.

3,000 join Improv Everywhere at ROOSEVELT L!VE

Saturday 23, 2009 kicked off the first ROOSEVELT L!VE event produced by auster*events.

3,000 people joined Improv Everywhere at the River Walk Commons on Roosevelt Island to enjoy a sunny afternoon of wacky group participation in Mp3 Experiment Six.

While listening to Improv Everywhere's pre-recorded instructional Mp3, participants were instructed to lie down, square dance, and even wage war with blow-up neon colored hammers.

Last Thursday Brooklyn welcomed the American Heart Association into Brooklyn with open arms and open hearts...

In celebration of the inaugural American Heart Association's Brooklyn Start! Heart Walk, community members from across the borough gathered to enjoy heart-healthy food and drink.

Highlights included a brief speaker portion featuring Brooklyn Borough President, Marty Markowitz and a fabulous spread of health conscious food prepared by the Bosch, Thermador, Gaggenau Appliance Showroom.

Brooklyn Start! Heart Walk will be held on October 11, 2009 at Brooklyn's famed Prospect Park.

auster*events is MOVING their offices into Green Spaces (33 Flatbush Ave, Brooklyn) on April 1st!!!!!

Green Spaces provides work space to Green Entrepreneurs, creating a community of fellow NYC entrepreneurs committed to sustainability.

Currently, auster*events is transforming a large space on the fourth floor into our new home-base. A large vintage poker table was just carried into the space and will be used as one of many creative work areas.

Once we have completely moved in and branded our space we will be sure to post pictures of the team in our new home.

Inspiration was in the air! Packed with good people, sweet beats, and creative activities--Solar-One put on a great party that was informative and fun.

I heart PV's efforts to increase public and political support for an extensive 10-year rebate initiative is moving along and gaining steam.

There is a lot of chatter going around these parts about the $145 million Mega Millions drawing this evening, but for a special auster*events employee, she's already won the jack-pot!

Kaitlin Harvey, senior account executive, was notified today that she was a big winner at the Brooklyn Industries Plantastic In-Store Event this past weekend! She won the illustrious "fern" that most attendees were vying for!

Kaitlin will be picking up her prize this evening and will be accompanied by the entire auster*events staff (yea a*e provides a security service as well) in order to protect her from people who covet her jewel of a prize!

Congratulations Kaitlin, good things come to those who network!

To raise awareness about what a big threat heart disease poses for women, Friday, February 6, 2009 is designated as National Wear Red Day. Wear something red on this day to show that you care about your heart health and support the research and programs that help combat heart disease.

Walking the Brooklyn Bridge, eating Nathan's hot dogs at Coney Island, perusing art galleries in DUMBO.... trying to find a connection? Wait for the lightbulb in your head to go on... wait... OF COURSE! They have all graciously hosted auster*events during our Fun Office Trip Friday. This week auster*events ventured into Manhattan to visit Color Me Mine Tribeca in an attempt to access our inner Pablo Picasso.

Upon arriving at Color Me Mine Tribeca, the staff members Edward and Brit were extremely helpful and insightful. They explained all the color options and creative tools available to us. Wow how things have changed since the last time any of us participated in this type of activity. auster*events gives two paint brushes up for Color Me Mine Tribeca!

Next week when our mugs have gone through the kiln and been brought to auster*events headquarters in Brooklyn, we will have members of Radius Construction pick the winner!

What BRER is all about:
The Brooklyn Real Estate Roundtable is a quarterly luncheon series committed to timely, substantive conversations about all the critical areas of Brooklyn real estate. Each year, the proceeds of the BRER luncheons benefit the Brooklyn Historical Society.

Pessimism vs. Optimism: Brooklyn's Economic Outlook for 2009

Yesterday, the auster*events team joined Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce members at their Brooklyn 2009 Economic Outlook Breakfast. In addition to a filling meal, the event offered an interesting panel discussion and keynote speech addressing the future of Brooklyn’s economy given the current economic trends.

In a presentation revealing the results of the Brooklyn Chamber-Sovereign Bank 2009 Economic Outlook Survey, Fredric Hugue, the Senior Vice President of Sovereign Bank, announced Brooklyn’s greatest strength to be its arts and cultural attractions, and its most challenging business issue to be attracting new customers.

Keynote speaker, Christopher Ward, Executive Director of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, highlighted the Brooklyn waterfront, and its potential development into a democratic green space.

In short, times are tough, and they are not going to get better for a while. The economic outlook is generally grim, especially due to the lack of funding flowing into development efforts. BUT…Brooklyn has a variety of industries and a high quality of life that attracts and retains young skilled workers, who will help carry this wonderful borough forward.

No matter how you look at it, the breakfast was inspiring and thought provoking. We are auster*events have faith that Brooklyn will survive and thrive!

This blog is here to offer an inside look into the auster*events office, which is filled with amazing, talented, and witty (toot toot) employees. We want to share with you all of the fun, weird, strange and exciting things we are doing in and out of the office.

Who's Who

-Karen Auster founded auster*events in 1994. Since then she has birthed and raised two beautiful children while growing her business into New York City's premier strategic marketing firm. She has sass and style and loves the life she lives.

-Ross Krentzman, auster*events go-to-guy, has been with a*e for almost two years and has enjoyed every single second of it. While he is stubborn and refuses to move to Brooklyn with the rest of the staff, he is a keeper.

-Kaitlin Harvey is a recent addition to the auster*events team but has been working with Karen and auster*events for years. She is a mid-west gal who always has a smile on her face and a pop in her step (note: she is a really talented dancer).

-Emma Parnass is the newest member of auster*events, and while she is still getting her bearings, she is undoubtedly addicted to a*e.
