April 1st was a beautiful day for our Bronx Terminal Market Celebrates Spring event on the sun-filled roof deck of Bronx Terminal Market thanks to our partners, Sustainable South Bronx and GrowNYC, for their hands-on recycling demos and gardening tips. Home Depot also took part in the eco-friendly fun by offering a free workshop where families walked away with keepsake planters and plants. 98.7 Kiss FM brought the event to new levels with classic soul and R&B favorites while children got their faces painted and lined up for free balloons and prizes! The event not only paid homage to a season of renewal, growth, and blossoming foliage, but also encouraged participating families to help preserve the environment.
This month, we hosted a fabulous party at Hopeland on Atlantic Avenue in downtown Brooklyn. Guests sampled a savory rustic Italian menu; our favorites were the short rib ragu over cavetelli and the ricotta cheesecake! Crisp white wines, oaky reds, bubbling champagne, and specialty cocktails made with Bootlegger Vodka added to the fun. All through the night, rhythmic maracatu folk beats and the brilliant vocals of Nation Beat's Liliana Araujo resounded within the cozy space. It was especially great to meet new friends!
Last week, Lapham’s Quarterly hosted their First Annual Decades Ball at 583 Park Avenue celebrating the Roaring Twenties. Gorgeous girls in flapper dresses greeted guests at the door and set the mood for the event. On each exquisitely decorated table were cleverly themed favors such as a Hemingway labeled cigarette carton which held two short stories within it, vintage gold matchboxes, mini Hendrix gin samples, two pocketsize novellas by Fitzgerald and Pogash, and a recent issue of Lapham’s Quarterly. The evening’s program was the cat's pajamas, featuring notable celebrities Ben Walker and Anne Hathaway narrating excerpts by Ernest Hemingway and Dorothy Parker while Maude Maggart crooned "A Room with a View," by Noel Cowards. Other famed appearances included a reading from Harry Houdini by Bobby Cannavale, a reading from Don Marquis by Sam Waterston, and Colin Donnell channeled his Broadway voice for a lovely rendition of Gershwin's "Someone to Watch Over Me." Check out these photos from the event, which were featured in the Style section of The NY Times!
We held our end of season celebration at Brooklyn Bowl with Debra Garcia of Camp Brooklyn, Julia and Carey of Frolic!, Charley of Brooklyn Bowl, and Norm and Elaine of CitiStorage to brainstorm the launch of a rock fest in Williamsburg on June 3rd! Some of us bowled and some of us ate delicious fried chicken and pizza from Blue Ribbon restaurant!
